Structured gel / builder gel

Rather than adding length, this builds an apex over your own nail to reinforce it. The right choice if your nails break at the stress point or bend under pressure, and the best option for anyone who wants strength at their natural length.

Acrylic

Still the most durable option for long or heavily sculpted shapes. The thing to ask is which monomer the salon uses: ethyl methacrylate (EMA) is the professional standard, while the FDA has warned against methyl methacrylate (MMA) in nail products and several state boards prohibit it.

The lash side: classic, hybrid and volume

• Classic – one extension on one natural lash. Adds length and definition without density. Reads as “your lashes, but better”.
• Hybrid – a mix of classic and volume fans. Fills gaps and adds texture. The most forgiving option if your natural lashes are sparse in places.
• Volume – a handmade fan of several ultra-fine extensions on each natural lash. Full and dark. It only works safely when the fans are light enough that the natural lash can carry them.

Whichever set you choose, the non-negotiable is isolation: every extension goes on a single natural lash, never bridging two. Lashes glued together grow at different rates and pull each other out. If a full set is finished in under an hour, that is the usual reason.

How long each service lasts

• Gel-X and acrylic: fill every two to three weeks.
• Structured gel: two to four weeks, depending on growth.
• Lash extensions: a fill every two to three weeks, as your natural lashes shed on their own cycle.
• Gel pedicure: often four to six weeks, since toenails grow more slowly.

Retention: the first 48 hours decide everything

Lash adhesive needs time to cure fully. Keep the set dry for the first 24 hours, skip the sauna, the pool and hot yoga for the first two days, and sleep on your back if you can manage it. After that, the routine is simple: cleanse the lash line with a dedicated lash shampoo, brush them through with a spoolie, and stay away from oil-based makeup removers and waterproof mascara.

For nails, the equivalent habit is cuticle oil every day. It keeps the natural nail flexible underneath the enhancement, which is what stops breaks at the stress point.

What works in Las Vegas specifically

Dry desert air and air conditioning pull moisture out of the nail plate, so brittleness is the most common complaint here – oil and a structured overlay do more for nail health locally than anything else. Do lash extensions damage your natural lashes?

Not when they are applied correctly. Damage comes from extensions that are too long or too heavy for the natural lash to support, from poor isolation that glues lashes together, and from rubbing or pulling them out at home. A good lash artist will refuse a length your lashes cannot carry.

Can I wear mascara with lash extensions?

You should not need to, and waterproof mascara in particular breaks down the adhesive. If you want more drama, book a hybrid or volume set rather than adding mascara to a classic one.

Which is better for weak nails – Gel-X or acrylic?

Gel-X, in most cases. It is lighter, needs less filing on application and soaks off rather than being drilled away. If you want strength at your own length instead of extra length, ask about structured gel.

How far in advance should I book?
